Achievements in 2005/06
 
  • Reception Enquiries and Advice: Providing advice and assistance to 3,904 people throughout Leeds during the last year.
  • Home Maintenance Service: Carrying out essential repairs to the homes of 468 older and disabled people, funded by Department of Neighbourhoods & Housing.
  • Disabled Adapatations Service: Carrying out major adaptations and extensions in the homes of 30 disabled adults and children, funded by Disabled Facilities Grants and Leeds Social Services.
  • Falls Prevention Service: Carrying out 500 home assessments and organising work to reduce the risks of older people falling, funded by 3 of the PCT's.
  • Hospital Discharge/ Prevention Service: Carrying out minor adaptations to ensure that 1,867 people could leave hospital as soon as their treatment was completed or to prevent them from being admitted, funded by Leeds Social Services. the average cost of each job was £98. It costs £350 a day for someone to stay in hospital unnecessarily.
  • Handyperson Service: Carrying out heating repairs, essential electrical and plumbing repairs, home security improvements in the homes of 572 older and disabled people, funded by charitable trusts, donations and Leeds City Council.
  • Greenfingers Gardening Service: This has assisted in helping 1,220 older and disabled people to maintain their gardens by providing advice, support and financial assistance to 26 gardening sewrvices throughout Leeds, funded by Greenfingers Leeds.
  • Shopping Services: This new service has established a range of shopping services for older people in the outer East Leeds areas and is piloting a continence aids deivery service, funded by Keeping House.

All of these services are targeted at those people most in need of help and support to continue to live independently in their homes and communitieThe agency employs staff that speak a range of Asian languages so that all of the services are accessible by most of the minority ethnic communities in Leeds.

During the year Care and Repair (Leeds) provided these services to 7,341 people throughout Leeds. This was an increasse of 18% on the previous year.
